What is involved?
The process is as follows:
- Rob sends email to NZTA requesting:
- Confirmation of eligibility and
- Whether assessment is funded.
Funding, if available, is then confirmed to Rob. If you have made a previous request to another Assessment Centre, the funding may already be allocated to them and you will need to complete the process with them.
- If you are eligible and funding is confirmed either from NZTA or you will pay yourself then you will meet with Rob (either remotely via video or face to face if that is practicable) and
- During the 1st interview, Rob will seek to obtain your detailed history including those factors which led to your problematic use of substances,
- what treatment options you have engaged with (evidence of same will be required by NZTA – Certificates et al)
- What changes you have made
- What things may make it more and less likely for you to re-offend
- Your Medical Practitioner (GP)
- Names and contact details of others you may choose to offer as referees who can attest to your prior life and behaviours, changes you may have made and what is likely to keep you safe from here
- You will be asked to
- give authorisation for Rob to obtain your Criminal & Traffic History from the Ministry of Justice
- submit samples of blood and urine
- submit to a specific medical examination by your usual GP – you will need to pay for this yourself.
- Rob will send the results of your blood and urine screens to your usual GP and he will ask them to interpret these results and report on the specific examination requested.
- Once all of this information is collected, Rob will make his assessment decision and prepare a draft final report (as set out in the Act).
- We will meet again for the 2nd interview and go through the final report and rationale behind it.
- This Final Report including recommendation, will then be submitted to NZTA together with the evidence collected.
- NZTA make the decision based upon the evidence submitted and taking into account the recommendation made.
